Why it matters

What a residency visa unlocks for you.

A UAE residency visa is more than a stamp. It is the key that opens the Emirates ID, a personal bank account, family sponsorship and everyday life in the country, from a tenancy contract to a local driving license.

The Dubai skyline, home to thousands of new UAE residents each year

One advisor handles the visa, the Emirates ID and the family file together.

  • Your Emirates ID

Residency is the route to the Emirates ID, the single document that proves your legal status and gives access to almost every service in the country.

  • Sponsor your family

A valid residency lets you sponsor your spouse, children and, in many cases, parents, so the whole household relocates under one file.

  • Open a personal bank account

UAE banks require a residency visa and Emirates ID before opening a personal account, arranging salary transfer or issuing a credit card.

  • Drive, rent and subscribe

Exchange your foreign driving license, sign a tenancy contract and take out a mobile or utility subscription, all gated behind residency.

Types of visa

Six routes to UAE residency.

The UAE offers multi-year residency to investors, employees, remote workers, property owners, talented individuals and retirees, each able to sponsor their family. Choose theroute that fits, or let an advisor decide it with you.

  • Most popular

    Investor / Partner visa

    Validity:
    2 to 10 years
    Threshold:
    Free Zone from AED 50,000

For owners and partners of a UAE company. Shareholding from AED 50,000 in a Free Zone, or AED 75,000 in a Mainland company, secures an investor residency, and larger investments can qualify for the long-term Golden Visa.

    • Free Zone and Mainland
    • Sponsor your dependants once issued
    • Upgrades to a 10-year Golden Visa at higher thresholds
  • Employment visa

    Validity:
    1 or 2 years
    Threshold:
    Sponsored by employer

When you work for a UAE company, the employer sponsors your residency and work permit. The visa is valid for one or two years in line with your contract, and you may sponsor dependants above the salary threshold.

    • Work permit plus residency in one file
    • Sponsor family from AED 4,000 salary plus accommodation
    • Renewable for the length of your employment
  • Real-estate investor visa

    Validity:
    2 to 10 years
    Threshold:
    Property from AED 750,000

Buying a completed property in the UAE gives you the right to apply for a residency visa. From AED 750,000 the standard property visa applies, and from AED 2 million the file qualifies for the 10-year Golden Visa.

    • Completed, registered freehold property
    • Sponsor dependants under the same title
    • AED 2m+ unlocks the 10-year Golden route
  • Remote-work visa

    Validity:
    1 year
    Threshold:
Income from USD 3,500 / month

Live in the UAE while you work for an employer or your own company based abroad. You need proof of employment or ownership, an average income of about AED 12,900 (USD 3,500) per month, and recent bank statements.

    • Work remotely for a foreign employer
    • One-year virtual residency, renewable
    • Proof of income plus three months of statements
  • Cultural & special talents visa

    Validity:
    10 years
    Threshold:
    Endorsed talent

A 10-year Golden Visa for creatives in culture, art and heritage, and for specialised talents and researchers such as doctors, scientists and inventors. It is granted on the strength of recognised achievement, not investment.

    • Long-term residency for recognised talent
    • Covers creators, scientists and specialists
    • No employer sponsorship required
  • Retirement visa

    Validity:
    5 years
    Threshold:
Aged 55+ with savings or property

A five-year residency for applicants aged 55 and over who meet a savings, income or property threshold. It is the cleanest route for retirees who want to make the UAE their base without running a company.

    • For applicants aged 55 and above
    • Savings, pension income or property qualify
    • Renewable every five years

Looking for a 10-year residency?

Larger investments, AED 2m+ property and endorsed talent all qualify for the UAE Golden Visa, with longer validity and no sponsor.

The process

From your first consultation to residency approval.

Most residence visa applications are completed within 7 to 10 working days. A dedicated advisor manages the entire process, guiding you through every step, including medical and biometric appointments.

  1. 01

    Day 1 to 3

    Entry permit

We confirm your eligible route, prepare the file and secure the electronic entry permit that authorises the residency process to begin.

  2. 02

    Day 3 to 4

    Status change

If you are already inside the UAE, we change your status from visit or tourist to residency in process, with no need to leave the country.

  3. 03

    Day 4 to 5

    Medical Check

We book and accompany you to the medical fitness test and the Emirates ID biometric capture, then track the results to clearance.

  4. 04

    Day 5 to 6

    Emirates ID

Your Emirates ID application is submitted and processed in parallel with the visa stamp, so both documents land together.

  5. 05

    Day 7 to 10

    Residency Approval

The residency is issued and linked to your passport. We then handle the driving-license exchange and family sponsorship where they apply.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked Questions.

How do I renew my UAE residency visa?

A UAE residency visa is renewed before it expires by repeating a shorter version of the original process: a medical fitness test, an Emirates ID renewal and the visa re-stamping, with your sponsor's documents attached. We start renewals about 30 days before expiry so there is no overstay. If your residency came through a company we set up, the Standard renewal walkthrough is free. For a full breakdown, see our guide on how to renew your UAE residency visa.

How long does it take to get a UAE residency visa?

For most applicants the full process runs about 10 to 15 working days, covering the entry permit, status change, medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics and the final visa stamp. Timelines vary by emirate and visa route, and Golden Visa files can take longer because of the additional endorsement step. We give you a realistic date during the initial consultation.

Can I sponsor my family on my residency visa?

Yes. Once your own residency is issued you can sponsor your spouse, your children and, subject to conditions, your parents. The main requirement is a minimum salary, generally AED 4,000 per month plus accommodation or AED 5,000 without, along with attested marriage and birth certificates. We handle the document attestation and the dependant applications as one file.

What is the difference between a residency visa and the Emirates ID?

The residency visa is the permit that gives you the legal right to live in the UAE and is linked to your passport. The Emirates ID is the physical identity card every resident must carry, used to access banking, healthcare, government services and SIM cards. They are issued together: you cannot hold one without the other, and both are renewed at the same time.

Do I need a company to get a UAE residency visa?

Not always. An investor or partner visa requires a UAE company, but employment, property, remote-work, talent and retirement routes do not. If you are setting up a business anyway, the investor visa is usually the most cost-effective path because the company and the residency are arranged together. If not, we will point you to the route that fits your needs

Which UAE residency visa is the cheapest?

For company owners, a free-zone investor visa is typically the lowest-cost route, since the residency is bundled with a license that starts from a few thousand dirhams in zones such as Ajman, IFZA or Meydan. Employment visas are funded by the employer. Property and Golden routes cost more but deliver longer validity. We compare the all-in figures, government fees included, before you choose.

Can I get a UAE residency visa without leaving the country?

In most cases, yes. If you are already in the UAE on a visit or tourist visa, we change your status to residency in process without an exit, so there is no need to fly out and back. A small number of nationalities or situations still require an out-of-country entry permit, and we confirm which applies to you before any fee is charged.

Does a UAE residency visa make me a tax resident?

Residency is a prerequisite, but tax residency is a separate status confirmed by a Tax Residency Certificate from the Federal Tax Authority. To qualify you generally need to spend at least 183 days in the UAE in a 12-month period and hold a valid residency and Emirates ID. We help eligible residents apply for the TRC to claim double-taxation treaty benefits.
