UAE Employment Visa, from work permit to Emirates ID.
Hiring in the UAE, or moving here for a job? One advisor sets up the work permit, the entry permit and the labour contract, then walks the employee through the medical, Emirates ID and family sponsorship, Mainland or Free Zone, end to end.
An employment visa is the only lawful way to put someone on a UAE payroll. It bundles the work permit, the residency and the Emirates ID, and keeps your company compliant with the Ministry and your Free Zone.
One advisor handles the work permit, the visa, the Emirates ID and the family file together.
The legal right to work
An employment visa pairs a work permit with residency, the only lawful way for your hire to be paid and employed by a UAE company.
Emirates ID and medical
The file includes the medical fitness test and the Emirates ID, the single document every resident needs for banking, healthcare and daily life.
Family sponsorship
Above the salary threshold, your employee can sponsor a spouse and children, so the whole household relocates under one residency.
Full MOHRE compliance
Labour contract, establishment card and immigration quota handled correctly, so the company stays clean with the Ministry and the Free Zone.
Employment visa routes
Six waysto sponsor and be sponsored.
Mainland or Free Zone, full-time or freelance, new hire or renewal, there is a route for every situation. Choose theone that fits, or let an advisor map it with you.

Mainland employment visa
Validity:
2 years
Sponsor:
MOHRE + your company
The standard route for a Mainland (DET / DED) company. The work permit and labour contract are issued through the Ministry of Human Resources, then linked to a two-year residency and Emirates ID.
For staff of a Free Zone company, the work permit and visa are issued by the Free Zone itself, for example IFZA, Meydan, RAKEZ or Shams. Validity and cost vary by zone, and quotas are tied to your office package.
Work for yourself under a Free Zone freelance permit, then attach your own residency visa. A clean route for consultants, creators and specialists who do not need a full company license.
Once an employee holds a valid residency and meets the salary threshold, they can sponsor a spouse, children and in some cases parents. We handle the attestation and the dependant applications as one file.
We renew employment visas before they lapse with a shorter version of the original process, a medical, an Emirates ID renewal and re-stamping, so there is no overstay and no gap in the employee's status.
Change a job title, transfer a sponsor or close a visa cleanly when an employee leaves. We process the labour and immigration steps so the company avoids fines and the record stays accurate.
Most employment files are issued in 10 to 14 working days. One advisor carries the company and the employee through all five steps, and comes with you to the medical and biometric appointments.
01
Day 1 to 2
Quota and card
We confirm your company can sponsor, with a valid establishment card and an immigration quota, and open one if it is missing.
02
Day 2 to 5
Work and entry permit
The MOHRE or free-zone work permit and the electronic entry permit are applied for, authorising the residency process to begin.
03
Day 5 to 7
Status change
If the employee is already in the UAE, we change their status to employment in process, with no need to leave and re-enter the country.
04
Day 7 to 10
Medical and Emirates ID
We book and accompany the employee to the medical fitness test and the Emirates ID biometrics, then track the results to clearance.
05
Day 10 to 14
Visa stamped
The residency is issued and the labour contract registered. The employee is now legally employed, and family sponsorship follows if needed.

A free-zone employment visa typically starts from around AED 3,500 per employee all in, and a Mainland MOHRE visa from about AED 5,000, including the work permit, medical and Emirates ID. The exact figure depends on the Free Zone, the role and the company quota, so we quote one fixed, all-in price up front with the government fees passed through at cost.
How long does it take to get an employment visa in the UAE?
For most employees the full process runs about 10 to 14 working days, covering the work permit, entry permit, status change, medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics and the final visa stamp. Free-zone files are often a little faster than Mainland MOHRE files. We give the employee a realistic date during the initial consultation.
What is the difference between a Free Zone and a Mainland employment visa?
A Mainland employment visa is sponsored through the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHRE) and lets the employee work anywhere in the UAE under a DET or DED license. A free-zone employment visa is issued by the Free Zone authority and is tied to a company inside that zone. Both deliver a residency and Emirates ID; the right one depends on your license and where the employee will work.
Can my employee sponsor their family on an employment visa?
Yes. Once the employment visa is issued and the employee meets the salary threshold, generally AED 4,000 per month plus accommodation or AED 5,000 without, they can sponsor a spouse, children and in some cases parents. They need attested marriage and birth certificates, and we handle the attestation and the dependant applications as one file.
What is a work permit and how is it different from the visa?
The work permit, also called a labour card, is the Ministry or free-zone approval that authorises a person to work for a specific company. The residency visa is the permit that lets them live in the UAE, linked to their passport, with the Emirates ID as the physical card. An employment file bundles all three, and we process them together.
Can I switch an employee from a tourist visa to an employment visa?
In most cases, yes. If the employee is already in the UAE on a tourist or visit visa, we change their status to employment in process without them leaving the country, so there is no border run. A small number of nationalities still need an out-of-country entry permit, and we confirm which applies before any fee is charged.
What documents are needed for a UAE employment visa?
From the company: a valid trade license, establishment card and immigration quota. From the employee: a clear passport copy valid for at least six months, passport-style photos, and attested educational certificates for certain roles. We send an exact checklist up front and review everything before submission so nothing bounces back.
How do I renew a UAE employment visa?
An employment visa is renewed before it expires by repeating a shorter version of the original process: a medical fitness test, an Emirates ID renewal and re-stamping, with the labour contract updated where needed. We start renewals about 30 days before expiry to avoid any overstay or gap in the employee's legal status.
