How do I change my company name in the UAE?
You reserve the new trade name with your licensing authority, pass a shareholder resolution approving the change, amend the memorandum of association, and reissue the trade license. The new name then has to be updated on your establishment card, immigration file, bank account and stamps. We handle the whole sequence for you.
How long does a company name change take?
The license side, name reservation, resolution and reissue, usually takes about one to two weeks. Updating the establishment card, bank and visas can run a little longer. We sequence the steps so your company keeps operating throughout, and give you a realistic timeline up front.
How much does it cost to change a company name in the UAE?
Cost depends on your jurisdiction, since the name reservation and license amendment fees differ between the Mainland (DET) and each Free Zone, plus our service fee. We confirm a clear, fixed quote for your specific authority before any work begins.
Can I change the name of a Free Zone company?
Yes. Both Free Zone and Mainland companies can change their trade name. The steps are the same in principle, a name reservation, a resolution, an MoA amendment and a license reissue, but the authority and the exact forms differ. We manage it with your specific Free Zone or with DET.
What are the UAE trade-name rules?
A trade name must be unique on the register, must not contain offensive or religious terms or the names of countries or government bodies, should reflect your activity, and must carry the correct legal suffix such as LLC or FZ-LLC. We check your proposed names against these rules before reserving, so the application is not rejected.
Does changing my company name affect my bank account and visas?
Your bank account and visas remain valid, but they must be updated to the new name once the license is reissued. We notify the bank, update the establishment card and amend the immigration records, so there is no mismatch between your license and your other registrations.
Do I need a shareholder resolution to change the name?
Yes. A change of trade name is a formal amendment to the company, so it needs a resolution signed by the shareholders, and often a notarised MoA amendment. We draft the resolution and the amended memorandum and prepare them for signature and notarisation.
Should I trademark the new name?
It is worth considering. Reserving a trade name secures it on the licensing register, but a registered trademark gives you exclusive nationwide rights to the brand and the ability to stop copycats. Many clients pair a name change with a trademark filing, and we can handle both together.
